Abstract
The present book follows the emerged view and growing awareness of the enhancing and discouraging effects in recent years that institutions may play for the female labour force participation. These institutions encompass formal and informal social rules and norms (customs, traditions, codes of conduct). The aim of this work is to examine the effect of several such social institutions (formal and informal constraints) imposed to women, which were provided by the OECD Social Institutions and Development Database (GID) and are a proxy for the economic and social role, that women play in the society.

Der Autor Andreas Markstädter, geboren 1984, hat von 2004 bis 2008 an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen Volkswirtschaftslehre mit den Schwerpunkten Entwicklungsökonomik, Statistik und Ökonometrie studiert. Derzeit promoviert er an der Professur für Mikroökonomik an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
